A driving force for people and businesses, and for well-being and creativity in our region.  <\/p>\n<p>SpareBank 1 Nord-Norge has grown in line with the development of the local communities and the region. While Northern Norway in the new century has future-oriented industries ranging from aquaculture and fisheries to high technology and tourism, we have become a modern financial institution with total assets of NOK 71 033 million at the end of June 2011. The number of employees was 786 at the end of June 2011.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>All banking services<\/strong><br \/>\nWe provide all banking services. This includes payments, savings, loans and insurance. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Good accessibility<\/strong><br \/>\nWe are easily accessible with 74 bank branches in Nordland, Troms, Finnmark and Svalbard. In Russia, we also have banking operations in St. Petersburg and Murmansk, through North-West 1 Alliance Bank. In addition, you can of course find us online.  <\/p>\n<p>Approximately 238,000 retail customers and 32,000 corporate customers (including the public sector, clubs and associations) have chosen us as their bank.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>Our history<\/strong><br \/>\nThe roots of SpareBank 1 Nord-Norge go all the way back to 1836, when Troms\u00f8 Sparebank was established as Northern Norway&#8217;s first savings bank. It was the seventeenth in the country.<br \/>\nThe first savings bank in Norway, Christiania Sparebank, was established in 1823. Later, new banks were established in most major cities, including Bergen, Drammen, Skien and Trondheim.  <\/p>\n<p>In our part of the country, Troms\u00f8 Sparebank came first, in 1836. A few years later, the county had its first rural savings banks. Ibestad Sparebank was established as early as 1843. Vads\u00f8 Sparebank was established in 1853, Bod\u00f8 Sparebank in 1857, and Alstadhaug and Vaagen Sparebank in 1859. During the 1860s, even more village savings banks were established, including in Tronden\u00e6s, M\u00e5lselv and Skjerv\u00f8y.<br \/>\n<strong>In Longyearbyen, the bank opened on 18.09.1959<span style=\"font-family: sans-serif; font-size: small;\">.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An amalgamation of 40 northern Norwegian banks<br \/>\nIllustration of SpareBank 1 Nord-Norway&#8217;s historyBy the early 1900s, savings banks had been established in most municipalities, and in the cities there was often more than one. In 1930, there were 627 savings banks. After this, the number declined, either due to mergers or closures. In 1967, the number was reduced to 527. SpareBank 1 Nord-Norge is an association of around 40 savings banks located in Nordland, Troms and Finnmark.    <\/p>\n<p>Help for self-help<br \/>\nThe basic idea behind savings banks in all countries was that they should help people to help themselves. This is evident in the first plans for savings banks. They often began like this:  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe object of this institution is to receive money from persons of both sexes, in particular from laborers and servants, and to make the sums received fruitful to the owner by the calculation of interest and by adding the interest to the capital.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The merger wave<br \/>\nThe merger wave started in earnest in the 1960s. For the savings banks in Northern Norway, it was the largest that led the way. Troms\u00f8 Sparebank merged in the period 1963-1984 with ten savings banks in Troms and Finnmark. Troms\u00f8sundets Sparebank first merged with four savings banks in Troms\u00f8 and in 1980 established Sparebanken Nord together with nine other savings banks in Troms and Finnmark. In Nordland, Alstadhaug Sparebank, Bod\u00f8 Sparebank and Vaagan Sparebank had undergone mergers during the same period. In 1985, Sparebanken Nordland was established through a merger between the three aforementioned banks and eleven other savings banks in the county.     <\/p>\n<p>SpareBank 1 Nord-Norge<br \/>\nIllustration of SpareBank 1 Nord-Norge&#8217;s historyThe banks in Northern Norway faced the banking crisis in the late 1980s and the first years of the 1990s. This led to the establishment of Sparebanken Nord-Norge in 1989. The bank is a merger of Troms\u00f8 Sparebank and Sparebanken Nord. In 1991, Nordkapp Sparebank was merged, and in 1992 Sparebanken Nordland.   <\/p>\n<p>SpareBank 1 Nord-Norge currently has 81 branches and is represented in most municipalities in Northern Norway, as well as on Svalbard and in Murmansk.<\/p>\n<p>SpareBank 1 Alliance<br \/>\nThe SpareBank 1 Alliance was established in 1995. A total of 20 different banks cooperate through the alliance, with four regional banks and 16 SamSpar banks. In 1997, the alliance partnered with F\u00f6reningsSparbanken in Sweden to secure an international partner, and in 2000, SpareBank 1 Gruppen merged with V\u00c5R bank og forsikring.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SpareBank 1 Nord-Norge P.O.
