Funken Lodge<\/h2>\n

With modern comfort in historic surroundings Spitsbergen Hotel offers a unique Svalbard experience. Situated at Haugen it has great views of Longyearbyen, the Lars glacier and the Longyear glacier. The hotel was constructed in 1947, but has been extensively refurbished over the years both internally and externally.<\/p>\n

In the cosy lounge, you can get freshly baked waffles every afternoon. Sit in front of the fire with an Arctic book from our library and make the journey back to the time of Nansen and Amundsen. You can also relax in our spa department which has a sauna and massage chair.<\/p>\n

The mining company\u2019s quarters
\nThe hotel was originally built as accommodation\/dining area for employees at Store Norske Spitsbergen Kulkompani. It was also the company\u2019s official representational building, and its interior and architecture made it Longyearbyen\u2019s grandest construction. Great effort has been placed in preserving its special history and it is well worth a cultural stroll along the hotel corridors and public areas where you\u2019ll find historic photographs, old maps and newspaper clippings.<\/p>\n

Historic suites
\nThe hotel has 88 rooms whereof 5 suites and a few superior rooms. All rooms are of high standard and several of them are decorated using historic interiors such as the Store Norske-suite and the Bergmester-suite. From January 1st, 2008, all our rooms are non-smoking rooms, and we will no longer offer any rooms where smoking is allowed.<\/p>\n
