Apotek Spitsbergen was opened in September 2008. The pharmacy is privately and locally owned, unlike the vast majority of the country’s pharmacies, which are owned by foreign companies. Apotek Spitsbergen is not a chain pharmacy, but is a member of the pharmacy group.
Apotekgruppen is an interest organization for independent pharmacies. Apotek Spitsbergen is run by Berit Fossland. Berit studied pharmacy at the University of Tromsø 1995-2000. She has 6 years of experience as a pharmacist at Apotek 1 Sjøsiden in Mosjøen.
Apotek Spitsbergen is located in Lompensenteret, Svalbard’s only shopping center. In the center you will also find tax-free shops selling souvenirs, clothes, hiking equipment, jewelry and much more. The center also has a coffee shop.
