It is with great pleasure that we present this year’s Unionsband, the Marcus Løvdal Band, to the audience in Svalbard.
At this year’s MidnattsolBlues, this very promising young band will deliver energetic and captivating blues with touches of soul, jazz, and funk
The Marcus Løvdal Band was formed in Kristiansand at the music conservatory just before Christmas in 2012. Marcus Løvdal recruited his former bandmate Audun Barsten Johnsen on keyboards, Jonatan Eikum on drums, and Lasse Kulsrud Nordby on bass. Bjørn Ulvik Blix Lein had played in a band with Audun and Marcus previously and joined the new band on vocals and guitar. The band plays both original songs and cover songs.
Union Blues Band
Every year, the Norwegian Blues Union organizes the Union Blues Cup talent competition at the Notodden Blues Festival. The winning band is awarded the title “Union Blues Band” and receives a prize that includes a tour of Norwegian blues clubs and festivals, organized by the Norwegian Blues Union.
The winners of the Union Blues Cup at the Notodden Blues Festival in August 2013 were the Marcus Løvdal Band, and they are touring as the Union Blues Band in 2014. (UBB 2011: Pristine, UBB 2012: Yngve & His Boogie Legs, UBB 2013: Malvin Nøsen & The Company)
