Shopping on Svalbard and in Longyearbyen
Longyearbyen on Svalbard is the only Norwegian town that offers duty-free shopping even to Norwegians.
In Longyearbyen there are small and large shops selling everything from groceries and fresh food to sports and leisure equipment, gifts and souvenirs. Particularly good prices can be found on alcoholic beverages, cigarettes and sports and leisure equipment.
In Longyearbyen Kunst- og Håndverkssenter, you will find several small galleries and stalls producing and selling arts and crafts.
Svalbard is not subject to customs and VAT regulations. This means that many goods are cheaper than on mainland Norway. Other goods, such as fruit, vegetables and fresh produce, can be more expensive due to high shipping costs.
