Kent Erik “9Fingers” Thorvaldsen (NO)

Kent Erik is a real bluesman who lives in an old wooden house in Toten. He has been playing and rattling around with classic Chicago blues in his repertoire as the witty frontman of The Jelly Roll Men for over ten years, but it is actually the delta blues that is closest to his heart.

For Kent Erik, music is religion, a manual for coming out of a divorce, a severed thumb and an audience that claps its hands. It’s only now that he’s really ready to take the blues uncompromisingly seriously. Ready to take to the stage all alone, armed only with a slide guitar and a paper bag of tired harmonicas. The ammunition is a potent mix of hard-won life experience, deep respect for African-American traditional music and generous amounts of gallows humor.

During Dark Season Blues, he interprets songs by the likes of Robert Nighthawk, Floyd Jones and the “house god” Son House to raise the hairs on the back of your neck. And if he’s really in a good mood, there may even be a few of his own lyrics in two-tone rolling out during the evening.
