It’s in its place that a fresh Spellemann blues winner (the Norwegian Grammy) is part of this year’s festival. Young Marius Sannerud Lien is an unusually good songwriter, guitarist and vocalist who, with last year’s album “The Woodland Songbook, Part 1”, produced and largely recorded by himself in his home studio at Vormsund, has really put himself on the Norwegian blues map.
Marius has been playing air guitar since he was two years old and chords since he was nine. Vidar Busk has been an important mentor and supporter for Lien, and he sings backing vocals (!) on the debut album. “Marius is so good that he can do whatever he wants,” Amund Maarud has said about his young guitarist colleague. Last August, he won the Norwegian Blues Union’s Young Artist Scholarship, and in September he traveled with his friend Magnus Berg to Nashville to record an album with an all-star team of American musicians. He comes to Longyearbyen with Kim André Tønnesen (bass) and Johan Christian Simonsen (drums).
