Big Creek Slim (DK)
Big Creek Slim is a Danish blues artist from Ikast, with deep roots in the early Mississippi Delta blues from before World War II. On his solo albums Migration Blues and Twenty-Twenty Blues, he shows his uncompromising passion for the roots of the genre, delivering self-penned songs with an authentic sound and catchy guitar playing. He discovered the spiritual core of the blues through his travels in the US, where he played, wrote songs and immersed himself in its history. For Big Creek Slim, the blues is about human emotion across time and place. The simple, powerful music inspires him and has changed his outlook on life.
Kent Erik Thorvaldsen (NO)
Kent Erik is a real bluesman who lives in an old wooden house in Toten. He has been playing and rattling around with classic Chicago blues in his repertoire as the quick-witted frontman of The Jelly Roll Men for over ten years, but it is actually the delta blues that is closest to his heart. For Kent-Erik, music is religion, a manual for coming out of a divorce, a severed thumb and an audience that claps in unison. Now he’s slowly working his way towards a solo album, and it’s going to be self-composed blues with a twist!

When two of the Nordic region’s most dedicated delta blues musicians come to Svalbard, it’s only natural that they also hold concerts together. Big Creek Slim & 9 Fingers Thorvaldsen is a Danish-Norwegian duo that brings authentic delta blues back to its roots. They deliver old-school, low down blues with deep respect for tradition. On a mission to bring real blues to the people, the way it’s meant to be played, they play with passion and soul. Their music is reminiscent of crackling mono recordings and the dust of the Mississippi Delta. Their humorous and entertaining stage show makes them unique, while honoring the heroes of the past and performing their own songs in the same spirit.
