From the Arctic Polar Night to the Mountains of Utah: A Journey Toward 2034

While we are deep in preparations for the 23rd edition of Dark Season Blues here in Longyearbyen, we are also casting our eyes toward a distant horizon. We are excited to announce a new international initiative that connects our passion for winter culture with the global stage: SaltLake2034.com.

At 78 degrees North, we know better than anyone what makes winter special. It’s not just about the cold or the snow; it’s about the community, the traditions, and the unique pulse of life that thrives when the temperature drops. Whether it is the soulful rhythm of the blues during the Svalbard polar night or the roar of the crowds in a world-class winter stadium, the spirit remains the same.

Connecting Global Winter Traditions

As part of our commitment to celebrating winter culture, we have launched SaltLake2034.com—an independent information portal dedicated to the journey toward the 2034 Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Utah and Svalbard may be thousands of miles apart, but they share a “Winter Soul.” Our new portal aims to explore this connection by covering:

  • Venue & Infrastructure Progress: Following the development of the legendary 2002 legacy sites in Utah.
  • Travel & Logistics: Helping international visitors plan their journey to the Wasatch Mountains.
  • Global Winter Traditions: Highlighting how different cultures, from the high Arctic to the American West, celebrate the coldest season of the year.

Why Salt Lake 2034?

Salt Lake City was officially named the host for 2034 in a historic vote in 2024, and the road ahead is filled with excitement. By launching this portal, we are bringing our experience in managing unique winter events to a global audience. We want to ensure that the “spirit of 2002” meets the modern, sustainable vision of 2034.

Follow the Journey

We invite our festival fans, partners, and the Svalbard community to follow this new project. Dark Season Blues will always be our heart in the North, but Salt Lake 2034 represents our vision for the future of global winter celebration.
