The Jelly Roll Men (NO)

The Jelly Roll Men is one of the few bands in Norway today that purifies the traditional Chicago blues right down to the stylish suits, often conveyed with humor.

The band has collaborated with another Chicago enthusiast, Knut Reiersrud, who has stated that the album “Jelly Roll Shuffle” is one of the best blues records released by a Norwegian band. The Norwegian Bluesnews gave them top score in their review, and the 2017 album also landed them a contract with international label Rhythm Bomb Records. “Jelly Roll Shuffle” was produced by American Little Victor.

In 2020, The Jelly Roll Men reached the semi-finals of the International Blues Challenge (IBC) in Memphis just before the pandemic shut everything down. The following year they made their debut on Dark Season Blues. Petter Skoglund (drums), Ole Martin Kristiansen Røsten (bass), Øyvind Stølefjell (piano), Christian Lie Øynes (guitar) and Kent Erik Thorvaldsen (vocals, guitar and harmonica) play both classics and own songs and promise a “whole package” when they are returning to Longyearbyen.
