MITCH KASHMAR
Singer and harmonica player Mitch Kashmar is among the cream of California’s blues musicians. He has mastered most blues styles and boasts a versatile repertoire.
Like T-Birds frontman Kim Wilson, Mitch Kashmar grew up in Santa Barbara. He began sneaking into bars to play with local musicians while he was a teenager, and in 1980 he started his own band. The Pontiax were very popular and a central band in the West Coast blues scene. They toured the world and were highly sought after as a backing band for legends such as Albert Collins, Luther Tucker, Lowell Fulson, Jimmy Witherspoon, Pinetop Perkins, Pee Wee Crayton, Big Joe Turner, and Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson.
In the mid-1980s, Mitch moved to Los Angeles, and The Pontiax recorded “100 Miles To Go,” a classic album that was reissued in 2010 by Delta Groove Music with a couple of newly recorded bonus tracks.
Mitch Kashmar made his solo debut in 1999 and has since released two studio albums on Delta Groove. At the 2006 Blues Music Awards, he was nominated in the “Best New Artist Debut” category, and the following year for “Best Instrumentalist – Harmonica.”
