Junior Watson

With 40 years of experience, West Coast blues guitar virtuoso Michael “Junior” Watson has achieved cult status.

His list of achievements is long and impressive. After beginning his career as a guitarist in The Gary Smith Blues Band in the early 1970s, he co-founded The Mighty Flyers with Rod Piazza. He worked with them for 11 years. He then played with Canned Heat for ten years, before going on to tour with singer and harmonica player Lynwood Slim. Along the way, he has toured and recorded with artists such as Big Mama Thornton, George “Harmonica” Smith, Jimmy Rogers, Charlie Musselwhite, and Kim Wilson.Junior Watson has been a highly sought-after “sideman” for most of his career, but since the turn of the millennium, he has primarily been a solo artist. He has created his own unique guitar sound through inspiration from classic blues masters, “West Coast swing,” and jazz. Last year saw the release of the album “Jumpin’ Wit Junior,” his fourth release since his 1994 debut on Black Top with “Long Overdue.”

He’s got the Billy T Band backing him up, so it looks like we’re in for quite the “super session.”
