The guitarist from the Norwegian band The Blues Express also has a side project as a solo artist. Kai Fjellberg released his solo album “Gravel Roads” in 2021. The ten original songs were very well received in the industry and media and have achieved a decent number of streams and downloads from people in different parts of the world.
This is one of the albums Fjellberg promotes when he tours under his own name. It’s a good mix of blues, soul, rockabilly and some Americana, with a variety of guitars, stompboxes and vocals. He offers both original songs from his own solo career and from the repertoire of The Blues Express in addition to relevant covers.
Together with Geir Bertheussen Blues Express, as the band was called at the time, Fjellberg was nominated for a Spellemann award in 2018. The following year, the band took second place in the European Blues Challenge. As a solo artist under Dark Season Blues, he strips down to a format where the songs and his own story, told through the music, are in focus.
