His name is Christoffer Lund Andersen, and he’s from Herre in the municipality of Bamble in Telemark, but to the entire blues world, he’s simply Kid Andersen. He started out as a guitarist, but is just as well known as a producer for a number of blues stars at his Greaseland Studios in San Jose, California.
In 2001, Kid was “lured” to the U.S. by Terry Hanck after he recruited him as a member of the house band at Muddy Waters in Oslo. Later, he played with Charlie Musselwhite and John Nemeth, among others. In 2008, he joined Rick Estrin & The Nightcats, who performed at Dark Season Blues in 2017. Kid has also released several solo albums, and his duo album *Spirits and Soul* (2024), recorded with his wife Lisa Leuschner Andersen, won a Spellemann Award in the blues category. He has won Blues Music Awards for albums with Musselwhite and Rick Estrin & The Nightcats, and has been nominated several times—most recently this year—for Best Guitarist. Together with Tommy Castro, he took home the Song of the Year award this year for “Can’t Catch A Break.” The Telemark native has also produced many albums that have won awards at the prestigious annual ceremony in Memphis.
Kid performed at Dark Season Blues back in 2004, during the festival’s second year. This time, he’s bringing along musicians who also played in the house band during Muddy Waters’ heyday: Billy T Band members Alexander Pettersen (drums), who was a “Nightcat” for several years, and Bill Troiani (bass).
