When Krissy was three years old, his father invited him on stage to play Roy Orbison’s “Oh, Pretty Woman.” At age twelve, he was invited onto the main stage by John Mayall himself for two nights during the Notodden Blues Festival. Now there was no turning back. By the time he turned 18, he had already released three albums.
Norwegian-British Krissy Matthews got his first guitar when he was eight years old. His father taught him to play music by The Shadows, but when he heard Amund Maarud during a visit to Norway, his passion for the blues was ignited. Since 2015, he has also been a regular member of the Hamburg Blues Band in Germany. In recent years, his career has really taken off, and this year he’ll finally be performing at Dark Season Blues. He’s toured extensively in Norway with his Norwegian backing band, The Vikings, but he’ll be coming to Svalbard with his “international” band.
Krissy’s most ambitious album is the double album *Krissy Matthews & Friends* (2024), featuring a total of 24 tracks, many of them with well-known artists such as Arthur Brown, Big Daddy Wilson, and the Norwegians Heidi Solheim, Silje Hagen, and Tommy Kristiansen. Earlier this year, he released the intense blues-rock album “Rock and Roll Soldier,” which also features guests such as Tora Daa, Reidar Larsen, Marith Endresen, Stina Stenerud, Tommy Castro, and Hans Theessink. For Dark Season Blues, Krissy will be joined by Slawek Semeniuk (bass), Gerry Reynders (drums), and Stephy Doherty (saxophone).
