For the past 16 years, the members of the Bluegrass Playboys have played alongside Øystein Sunde in the band with the curious name Meget i sløyd. Endless bus rides, hotel stays, waiting in dressing rooms, and jamming at ferry terminals have resulted in a repertoire consisting of original songs and reworked bluegrass classics. And—in 2016, the gentlemen took a step forward and released their own album featuring high-quality, genre-conscious bluegrass.
Authentic bluegrass is played on stringed instruments and often features beautiful harmonies and fine solo parts. It’s also typically played at a fast tempo, and the title of the group’s only album is, in fact, *Fast Forward* (2016). The four members of Bluegrass Playboys are lead songwriter Terje Kinn (banjo and vocals), Knut Ragnar Hem (dobro), Olaf “Knerten” Kamfjord (bass and vocals), and Øystein Fosshagen (fiddle, mandolin, and vocals). They are also frequently hired as studio musicians, but at Dark Season Blues, it’s all about these four and the music they love.
