Billy T Band | Dark Season Blues 2012
The Billy T. Band has performed at Svalbard and Dark Season Blues countless times before, both as a headlining act and as a backing band. They are essentially the house band of the blues club.
Billy T. Band is a blues/soul band fronted by American bassist William Troiani. The band’s third album, “Mo-Billy-T,” will be released just before they arrive in Svalbard.
“L.O.V.E. – Just A Silly Notion” won the 2010 Spellemann Award. With a handful of songs inspired by American soul, blues, R&B, funk, and swamp rock, “Mo-Billy-T” picks up where the previous album left off. This time, the main focus is on original material, and the album is described as the band’s most cohesive to date. We can’t wait to see them take the stage again at Dark Season Blues.

Press release for the album “Mo-Billy-T”

“Mo-Billy-T”: Billy T Band’s third album will be released on October 19 (BIGHCD1208). The album picks up where the previous one left off (“L.O.V.E. – just a silly notion” – winner of the 2010 Spellemann Award) with a collection of songs inspired by American soul, blues, R&B, and swamp rock. This time, the main focus is on original material, interspersed with a few obscure gems from “my wasted youth,” to use Bill’s own words. Clearly Billy T Band’s most cohesive album to date, as Øyvind Pharo writes in the album’s liner notes. All the elements from the first two albums have been refined and realized in “Mo-Billy-T.”
If you’re familiar with the Norwegian blues scene, you’re surely aware of this band, which grew out of the house band at the now-defunct “Muddy Waters” in Oslo in the early 2000s. With William “Bill” Troiani on lead vocals and bass, this band is among the best you’ll find in this genre right here in Norway. That said, this isn’t strictly a blues band. They incorporate elements of classic R&B, soul, rock, and funk, which always add color to the overall sound.
Bill was born and raised in New York and began playing bass in the early 1960s. His first band was called “The Post War Baby Boom Blues Band” and included Stanley Eisen (Paul Stanley of Kiss) on guitar. For the past 15 years, Bill has lived in Norway, and both he and the rest of the band have collaborated with a number of well-known musicians both in Norway and abroad. Bill also has a long history working with, among others, Tom Russell and Eddie Kirkland, in addition to several years as leader of the house band at Muddy Waters, where artists such as Kid Andersen and Amund Maarud honed their talents. In addition to Bill, the Billy T Band consists of a group of outstanding musicians who have built up a growing fan base in Norway and abroad. This is thanks to countless performances on concert stages, from Oslo to Moscow to New York.
