Harmonica player, singer, and singer-songwriter Curtis Salgado formed his first band, The Nighthawks, in Eugene, Oregon. He sang and played harmonica in The Robert Cray Band for six years before joining Roomful of Blues. Back in Oregon, he started Curtis Salgado & The Stilettos. Salgado was also a source of inspiration when John Belushi created the characters for the TV series “Saturday Night Live,” which laid the groundwork for the 1980 film “The Blues Brothers.”
Salgado has faced serious health challenges, including liver and lung cancer, but has made a strong comeback. He has released ten albums and received a total of eight Blues Music Awards in various categories. Don’t miss one of today’s most soulful voices, who is now back at the top of the American blues, soul, and R&B scene.

Curtis Salgado is backed here in Longyearbyen by JT Lauritsen & the Buckshot Hunters, who have been going strong as a band since their debut album in 1995. Jan Tore Lauritsen also ensures a great start to the day when he—along with friends—hosts the blues lunch at Barentz Pub on Saturday morning.
