Southern Hospitality

It is with great pleasure that we welcome Victor Wainwright back to Svalbard, three years after his successful appearance at the festival. Since then, this brilliant pianist has joined forces with guitarists JP Soars and Damon Fowler to form the supergroup Southern Hospitality.

The band formed as an exciting collaborative project following a jam session in 2011, blending soul, blues, Americana, and rock. Earlier this year, they released their debut album, “Easy Livin'”.

Fowler (guitar / lap steel / dobro) is often compared to Jeff Beck, Johnny Winter, and Duane Allman. Guitarist Soars won the International Blues Challenge in 2009 and has also been nominated for several other awards. Wainwright won the “Pinetop Perkins Piano Player Award” in May at the Blues Music Awards in Memphis.

The band’s name has its roots in the Southern states and reflects the warmth and hospitality for which this part of the U.S. is known. This is also evident in their music.
